Art shows on view April 4 – 27

Seeking to unpack and contextualize the loss of her mother, artist Sage Brousseau contemplates not only her mother’s legacy, but also what motherhood is. Using the past as a point of reference for navigating and giving meaning to the present, these photographs represent moments in which the artist is confronted by both the presence and loss of her mother. Some images are deeply personal and specific, others universally relatable, meant to invite the viewer in as a witness.

As a contemporary realist painter, Claudia Kafuman’s works are studies in observation. This exhibit attempts to capture everyday objects in a somewhat jumbled fashion. Stopping short of photo-realism, she works to keep the signs of her hand and brushstroke in her work. The challenge is to translate the perceived 3D world to a 2D field by observing and capturing conditions of light, transparency, color, and shadows through the painterly properties of oil paint.
