Schools and Libraries

July 4, 2022

From: Newton Free Library

The steamy summer weather kicked into high gear early this year when we discovered the 30-year-old motor in our cooling tower died and we couldn't turn on the Library's air conditioning system.

Many thanks to the City of Newton and Public Buildings Department for sourcing a replacement motor and the backordered parts necessary to get the Library's air conditioning turned on for the season.

With the repair work behind us, we can't wait to stay cool with you this summer!

Come visit and discover all that's available through the Library.

Our Summer Hours are:

-Monday: 9am-9pm

-Tuesday: 9am-9pm

-Wednesday: 9am-9pm

-Thursday: 9am-9pm

-Friday: 9am-6pm

-Saturday: 9am-5pm

-Sunday: Closed July and August

Our incredible Children's Room renovation is wrapping up this month! Our furniture is arriving and the learning activity area will soon be installed. Nearly 60,000 books returned from storage and our staff is hard at work unpacking and setting up this beautiful space for families to enjoy when the room opens for visitors next month.

Please be aware that there will be a short period of time at the end of July when we must close the temporary children's room in Druker Auditorium to reunite the collection prior to the opening of the new room. Children's materials will not be available for browsing/borrowing during this time. Details will be announced on our website and in an email alert to borrowers when those dates are confirmed.

In the meantime, explore our jam-packed July events calendar and sign up for Read Beyond the Beaten Path, our youth summer reading program to be entered into our incredible weekly prize drawings! Find registration, programming and book suggestions at newtonfreelibrary.net/summer.

Parking Lot Construction Continues

This summer, the Library parking lot is under construction to address the storm water infrastructure, improve pedestrian access, repave/re-stripe the lot and install additional lighting. Lot parking remains available during the majority of this work with additional parking on Homer Street.

Crews will close sections of the lot while they work. Please use caution, as traffic patterns in the lot may be disrupted. Prefer to avoid construction altogether? Consider parking on Homer Street and use the Homer Street entrance.
