Virtual Pajama Time! Monday, October 17 at 7pm. Get ready for bed by listening to these stories and songs that will help you drift off to dreamland. Put on your pajamas, cuddle with a loved one and bring your favorite stuffed animal friend! For kids ages 3 and up.

Wake Up Sunshine Storytime: Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10:30am OR 11:15am. Join us for storytimes on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Start your day with stories, songs and rhymes led by Newton Free Library children’s librarians. For children 0-4 and their caregivers.

Dial a Story: Listen to a children’s librarian read you a story over the phone. Call 617-796-1415 to listen to a story anytime you like. A new story is recorded weekly. For kids of all ages.

Little Beats: Wednesday, October 19 at 10:30am. Join Little Beats for 30 minutes of yoga inspired movement in the new children’s program room! This event is best for ages 1-5 and their adults, but all are welcome.

Draw Along: Black Cats! Wednesday, October 19 at 4pm. Draw Along Creatures continues with a focus on black cats! After creating a drawing of this animal from simple shapes, the artist instructor will show you how to create scenes from just your imagination. Space is limited. Registration (required) is only available for ages 7-10.

My First Storytime: Friday, October 21 at 10:30am. A songs and stories lapsit program for children, birth through 23 months, and their caregivers.

Irish Dance Performance: Saturday, October 22 at 10am. Come see The O’Shea Chaplin Academy of Irish Dance perform their reels and jigs! They have been teaching children ages 4 and up for over 65 years, and their dancers have won regional, national and world titles. The performance lasts 15-20 minutes, and then children from the audience will be invited to learn some steps! For kids ages 4 and up and their families.

Coming Up For Kids

Little Lab Coats: Arctic Exploration! Monday, October 24 at 4pm. Join us for our popular STEM program where we explore the basic properties of science in an easy and fun way. What is the difference between Antarctica and the Arctic? How are the seasons we experience in the Northeast similar to and different from the seasons in super cold regions? We will dive into food chains while looking at specific animals and plants found in the Arctic. Learn about real world threats to the Arctic and brainstorm ways to solve these problems. Registration (required) is only available for ages 6-9. Space is limited. 

Movers and Shakers: Wednesday, October 26 at 10:30am. Let's stretch! Let's move! Let's sing and dance! In this storytime we will read fun movement-based stories and then have lots of fun moving and dancing to some familiar rhymes and songs. Each class will begin with some light stretching, and end with a moment of mindfulness. For ages 2-4.

Our Stories: Spanish Bilingual Storytime: Friday, October 29 at 10:30am. Juntos Leemos! Children ages 0-5 and their adults are invited to join us for stories and songs in Spanish. This program will be led by an instructor from Pine Village Preschool, a Spanish immersion school.

Nuestra historias: Hora de cuentos bilingües en español: Viernes 29 de octubre a las 10:30am.

¡Juntos leemos! Invitamos a niños de entre 0 y 5 años y a sus acompañantes adultos a

Drop In Halloween Crafts: Monday, October 31 at 2pm. Come to the library for some fun Halloween crafts. Costumes encouraged! Ages 2-5.

The Girl In the Lake by India Hill Brown: Celeste is not doing well in her swimming lessons, and is not looking forward to visiting her grandparents, who live on a lake. Strange things start to happen in the house, and when Celeste confronts her grandparents they tell her about her great aunt, whom Celeste greatly resembles and who drowned in the lake after being barred from Whites-only swimming lessons at the local pool.

Spirit Hunters by Ellen Oh: Twelve-year-old Harper and her family just moved to D.C. after a series of accidents of which she has no memory. There are rumors that her new house is haunted and when her younger brother starts acting strange and lashing out violently, Harper works with her new friend Dayo to explore the house’s history and try to defeat the spirit that has inhabited her brother before it overtakes him entirely.

Scritch Scratch by Lindsay Currie: Seventh grader Claire is more interested in science than the paranormal, so she can’t understand why her father would quit teaching history to start a ghost tour bus company. One night, while helping her father on a tour, she discovers a little boy at the back of the bus whose presence is definitely ghostly. Claire and her friends search for the boy, ultimately leading to an old ship wreck.
