Marisol starts to discover that home isn’t always about a place, but as simple as staying true to herself.

Fantastic Tales of Nothing by Alejandra Green & Fanny Rodriguez - Nathan thinks he’s quite ordinary until he meets a creature named Haven. When Nathan realizes he has magical powers, it sets him and his unlikely group of friends off on a perilous quest across hearty terrain, creepy forests and ancient tombs. To save their land, the group must defeat a dark evil.

Miles Morales: Shock Waves written by Justin A. Reynolds, illustrated by Pablo Leon - Miles Morales is Brooklyn’s Spider-Man. After he hears that the disappearance of a father at his school happens to be related to the corporation sponsoring Miles’ fundraiser for the victims of the Puerto Rico earthquake, Miles puts his spidey-senses to work to uncover the truth.

Teen Reads

I’m a Wild Seed by Sharon Lee De La Cruz - In her memoir, De La Cruz shares the steps to undoing the patriarchal, colonial society on her own self-image, sexuality and freedom. She includes the people and things that shaped her identity and her definition of queerness.

Suncatcher by Jose Pimienta - Beatriz learns that a guitar may have the soul of her grandfather trapped in it. She thinks the only way to free him is to craft a flawless piece of music. This endless determination to craft the perfect song may come at the expense of her friendships, band and health.

Juliet Takes a Breath written by Gabby Rivera and illustrated & adapted by Celia Moscote - As a self-identified queer, Bronx-born Puerto Rican-America, Juliet comes out to her family the night before flying to Portland to intern with a feminist author. Her family’s reaction to her queerness is a disaster, and what’s even more upsetting, the author Juliet is interning with has a problematic definition of feminism which excludes women of color.
