Coming Up for Adults

Extraterrestrial: The First Sign of Intelligent Life Beyond Earth: Thursday, August 25 at 7pm. Bestselling author Avi Loeb will discuss his critically acclaimed book, Extraterrestrial: The First Sign of Intelligent Life Beyond Earth. In late 2017, scientists at a Hawaiian observatory glimpsed an object soaring through our inner solar system that was moving so quickly that it could only have come from another star. Avi Loeb, Harvard’s top astronomer,  concluded that there was only one conceivable explanation - the object was a piece of advanced technology created by a distant alien civilization.

Art Shows on View August 2 - 30

At the Edge by Vicki McKenna, Gallery. To help convey the astonishing geologic evolution underlying seemingly common landscapes, Vicki McKenna harnesses the textures, tonality and timelessness of black and white photography. This introduces elements of abstraction that ease a scene from its specific location, inviting others to marvel with her at the “ordinary” in our remarkable natural world. Still Life by Anna Rejoyce, Main Hall: Anna Rejoyce’s paintings say a lot about who she is. She often discovers a new self from her work. Usually, her subject matter is still life, the ordinary objects of daily life. On each canvas, she tries to depict her love and homage to the ordinary. Contact: [email protected].
