Poetry Reading and Open Mic: Tuesday, November 8, 7pm. The poetry series continues with readings by Willy Ramírez, Tom Laughlin and Alexis Hyett standing in for Barbara Helfgott Hyett. An open mic will follow with a limit of one poem per person. Open mic signups are taken via the Zoom chat feature; limited slots are available. The series is facilitated by Doug Holder of Ibbetson St. Press.

Covered With Night: A Story of Murder and Indigenous Justice in Early America: Wednesday, November 9 at 7pm. Join Pulitzer Prize-winning author Nicole Eustice for a talk on her book, Covered With Night: A Story of Murder and Indigenous Justice in Early America. The narrative reconstructs the virtually forgotten history of an attack by a pair of colonial fur traders who brutally assaulted a Seneca hunter near Conestoga, Pennsylvania.

Making the Dream of Fusion Energy a Reality Now: Tuesday, November 15 at 7:30pm. Join MIT Professor Dennis Whyte, Director of the Plasma Science and Fusion Center, for an important session on fusion energy. Professor Whyte has paved an innovative and faster path to producing fusion energy, which promises to be a clean, safe and virtually limitless energy source. He leads the fusion project SPARC -- a compact, high-field net fusion energy fusion device -- in collaboration with the private fusion startup Commonwealth Fusion Systems.

Vision Board 4 Living: Wednesday, November 16 at 4pm. Location: Druker Auditorium. If you are stuck in the chaos of life and are ready to take action and pursue your dreams, act now! Take this time to gain greater clarity in your life and move closer to your dreams. We will discuss the importance of the vision board theory as you assemble your vision board. Present your vision board to the group (if you would like to). All materials will be provided. 

Dispatch from the Gas Transition Allies - Green Newton Series: Thursday, November 17, 7pm. Join Nathan Phillips, Professor in the Department of Earth and Environment at Boston University, and Dr. Dorie Seavey, a Boston-based applied research economist, to learn about organizations and individuals who are dedicated to finding and fixing gas leaks. Hear how Gas Transition Allies (formerly Gas Leaks Allies) and many others are working on managing our gas infrastructure. Learn how we can make a safe, swift and just transition to electrification of the building heating sector for a healthier, safer and more resilient community and climate. 

Find Happiness through Mindfulness, Meditation and Yoga: Thursday, November 17 at 7:15pm. Experience ancient practices of breathing and meditation in an informal virtual setting. Discover secrets to increasing happiness in everyday life and learn ways to make it grow each day. No previous experience required. Sessions are led by mindfulness, yoga and meditation teacher, Janhavi Wadwhani.

Google Slides for Beginners: Friday, November 18 at 10am. Join us for a beginner’s tutorial on Google Slides. The class will cover creating a Google account (if you don't already have one) and a brief introduction to the product before going through the basics of how to use it.

The Infinite Mirage of Rapture by Jaina Cipriano, Newton Free Library, Gallery.

Jaina Cipriano is a Boston based artist communicating with the world through photography, film and installation. Her works explore the emotional toll of religious and romantic entrapment.

Found by Quinn Welsh, Newton Free Library, Main Hall. These watercolor paintings by Quinn Welch depict scenes found around Massachusetts and collaged images from his extensive magazine collection. His interests lie in the folds of fabric, peeling paint and abandoned machines.

Proposals are currently being accepted for July - December 2023 exhibits. Our galleries are highly sought after and well-loved by library patrons. We welcome applications from New England region artists showing two-dimensional works. We encourage artists from a variety of ethnicities and life experiences to apply.
