Almost a century ago, a mysterious creature was born in the Berkshires of Western Massachusetts. This enormous forked-tongue amphibian—who could walk, swim, and fly—first encountered humans on the banks of the Hudson River in Manhattan on November 26, 1936. 

That day in 1936, a time-traveling investigative reporter from The New York Prospect and three time-traveling scientist-adventurers were among the crowds lining the streets.
