Ron Rosenstock's World in Color

Through March 5, 2023

Ron Rosenstock’s World in Color showcases the Central Massachusetts photographer’s fascination with the natural environment and humanity’s place within it. Rosenstock has been an intrepid world traveler captivated by the pursuit of beauty for more than 60 years. He creates images that evoke the earth’s splendor in hopes of inspiring others to become stewards of the planet. This exhibition is the first to exclusively feature his color photography, which demonstrates a willingness to experiment and accept chance as he pursues technical excellence. The exhibition offers vivid glimpses into Rosenstock’s journeys in 12 countries across the world, including the cerulean skylines of Morocco, prismatic cliffs of Iceland, and sepia cityscapes of Italy.

Quantum Sanctuary

Through January 8, 2022

Cicely Carew devotes her practice to the expression of radical joy and liberation through the language of abstraction. Considering the needs of heart and mind in the darkness of our present moment, Carew’s immersive installation Quantum Sanctuary transports guests to a reclamation space that activates the senses and promotes awareness of our interconnectedness.

Gabriel Sosa:

No Vehicles in the Park

Through January 8, 2022

Gabriel Sosa works primarily with language and its inherent shortcomings, ambiguities, and implications. In No Vehicles in the Park, Sosa’s first solo museum exhibition, he uses drawing to examine how meaning is derived from—and can be manipulated in—an array of legal documents and court decisions. The exhibition title stems from a legal exercise in which participants debate the definition of a vehicle, exposing the limitations of a single word.

Adding Pattern, Adding Value

Through January 15, 2022

Across time and across continents, people of different cultures have transformed woven textiles, whether created by hand or machine, by adding pattern in various ways—from dyeing yarns multiple colors, weaving complex patterns (jacquard), or using fabric as the ground to which pattern could be added through embroidery or resist techniques (tie-dye or batik). Such transformations take time, effort, and resources, adding value that is both aesthetic and economic. Drawing on the resources of the Fitchburg Art Museum’s collections of global textiles, this exhibition will explore various techniques used in Africa, Indonesia, China, and South America.

Community Gallery

North County Land Trust Inaugural Artist in Residence Will Close

Through December 10, 2022

Will Close’s artistic practice explores landscape, nature and the relationships between earth and human life on both a local and global scale. Close camped and journaled for a week creating works of art that represent what is below our feet or right in front of our noses and then, inversely, right above our heads. On view are his journal entries and two large drawings from this experience.

The Community Gallery is for the exhibition of works of art from programs sponsored by non-profit or non-

commercial schools, community organizations, and artist groups from the region. It is supported by a generous gift from Dr. Roderick and Donna Lewin.
