Pelham Art Center Announces Annual Faculty Exhibition 2024

Arts and Entertainment

January 5, 2024

From: Pelham Art Center

Pelham Art Center’s first exhibition of 2024 will feature a selection of new artwork by its very own teaching artists. The Faculty Exhibition will be on display from January 20 - February 25, 2024, and features artwork in a variety of mediums ranging from drawings, oil paintings, ceramics, mixed-media, computer-generated work, collage, and more. Pelham Art Center’s teaching artists will introduce themselves and discuss their classes, workshops, and camps throughout the year.

Emlyn Taveras is one of the teaching artists with work featured in the Faculty Exhibition. “The artwork was created as a message and call for peace,” she said of “Offerings.” “Most of my work is a direct response to my environment, culture and the social climate. The materials hold significant meaning in the part of the story being told. ‘Offerings’ is created with handmade paper and texture that symbolizes the facets of our spiritual and physical identity.”

The Faculty Exhibition provides an opportunity to collect original art from established artists and to view the diverse expertise that instructors impart in the classes at Pelham Art Center.

“I enjoy the faculty exhibit because it allows us all a peek into other aspects, interests, and sides of our colleagues,” said Susan Saas, who has a recent self portrait and two illustration pieces from the early 2000s featured in the show.

Pelham Art Center instructors are professional artists in their associated media. They are also curators, collectors, entrepreneurs, scholars, and community pillars who have kindled creativity in thousands of students. Many are graduates of premier fine arts programs, hold prestigious awards and apprenticeships, and have been widely exhibited nationally and internationally. Since its founding in 1970, Pelham Art Center teaching artists have nurtured the creative potential of students of all levels.
