AN INTERVIEW WITH OUR ACTOR OF THE WEEK: AVA SUTTON

Introduce yourself, and tell us how old you are!

Ava Sutton, 9 years old

Why do you love theatre?

I love doing theatre because it is so much fun! I get to be silly and make new friends.

How long have I been at Poison Apple?

I have been doing shows at Poison Apple for a little over a year.

What has been your favorite show that you've performed in?

Beauty & the Beast (Summer 2023).

Favorite Role?

My favorite role was playing “Lily St. Regis” in Annie.

What’s something you’ve learned from participating in theatre?

I’ve learned that it doesn’t matter if you have the biggest or the smallest part. Everyone is an important part of the team. You need everyone doing their best to make a show great.

Can you tell us about a moment onstage when something didn't go as planned? How did it turn out?

One time, another character was supposed to say a line and hand me a prop to take off stage, but she didn’t. So, I just stood there and waited. I didn’t know what to do! We hadn’t practiced what to do if this kind of thing happened. I just stayed on stage until the next scene.

What's one piece of advice you'd like to give to someone stepping onstage for the first time?

I would tell them that acting can be really fun, but it’s also a lot of hard work. You have to give your best effort at practice. By giving your best effort, you become really comfortable with your lines and movements during the performances.

Is there anyone you'd like to give a shout-out to for supporting you on your acting journey?

I would like to thank Caroline (my “PAPA” for the last two shows.) She is very supportive and so nice. I want to be just like her when I am older!
