Request for Coverage: Pitt Community College Holding Four-Day Camp this Week for Boys & Girls Club Participants

Rising eighth-graders from five Pitt County Boys & Girls Clubs are participating in a four-day camp on the Pitt Community College campus this week that features a combination of hands-on activities, tours and instructional presentations.

We invite you to cover this event, if possible. Please feel free to reach out to me at [email protected] or (252) 799-7690 to set up a time to shoot video/photos and conduct interviews with camp organizers.

The camp began yesterday with introductions, a campus tour, and tips on budgeting and business plans. It will continue today, from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m., and take place at the same times Wednesday and Thursday as well.

Today’s camp will begin with a presentation on the PCC-Pitt County Schools Technical Academy and a tour of the college’s Automotive Systems training facilities. While there, students will participate in a hands-on “edible cars” activity.

Tomorrow’s slate includes a presentation on North Carolina’s Career & College Promise program, which allows students to take college courses tuition-free while they are still in high school, and a tour of the PCC Greenhouse. Campers will create terrariums during their visit.

Camp concludes Thursday with a tour of the Pitt County Schools Early College High School on PCC’s campus and stops at the college’s Building Construction program and student-built houses. The campers will also build birdhouses that day.

I appreciate your consideration of this coverage request and will be happy to assist you with the information you need, should you decide to come out this week.
