Roy Miller Buccaneers to Compete in State Quarterfinal Football Game

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – The Corpus Christi Independent School District's (CCISD) oldest high school, Roy Miller High School, is set to play in the University Interscholastic League (UIL) Class 5A Division 1 state quarterfinal football game against Brownsville’s Veterans Memorial High School. Roy Miller posted its first undefeated regular season since 2019. It's the most wins for the school in 20 years. The teams last met in 2011, a 17-3 win for Veterans Memorial.

The game will occur on Friday, December 1, at 7 p.m. at Brownsville ISD's Sams Memorial Stadium. The winning team will be recognized as the 5A Division 1 Region IV champion and advance to the state semifinals, where they will compete against one of the remaining three teams in Texas. Roy Miller’s last appearance in the state semifinals was in 1963.

“The City of Corpus Christi is proud of our student-athletes at Miller High School, their parents, and all their support teams, including their coaches. Their undefeated regular season led by head coach Justen Evans and advancement to the Class 5A Division 1 state quarterfinals demonstrates the optimism, focus, and determination we all aspire to achieve,”  said Peter Zanoni.

The four teams advancing to the state semifinals will compete from Thursday, December 7, through Saturday, December 9.

The 5A Division 1 state championship game will be held on Friday, Dec 15, at 7 p.m. in Arlington, at AT&T Stadium.
