We've got dozens of new hikesnature walks, future park visits (like Carrington Coast Ranch, shown above) and volunteer activities to get you outside this winter! Tackle a New Year's resolution with a backcountry hike or for those who prefer to cozy up by the fire, we've got a new session of our (virtual) book club.

Feelin' Crabby

Learn about local crustaceans and experiment with crabbing nets, cages and snares during this crab-tivating experience at Spud Point Marina in Bodega Bay. You're welcome to take home the crabs you catch if they meet size regulations.
Posada en el Parque
You're invited to Andy's Unity Park to celebrate the winter festivities with your community. We'll come together to break bread, sing songs and do some arts and crafts.
Winter Birding Wonders
Designed for new birders, this workshop at Riverfront Regional Park will help you develop your bird watching skills, while learning about our feathered friends, like this warbler shown here.
All ages are welcome, and we have binoculars for you to borrow.
Kids Outdoors
Science Saturdays
Bring your junior scientists to the Environmental Discovery Center at Spring Lake for a kids-only, interactive science hour. Activities are ideal for ages 6-12. Adults can head into the park for rejuvenating, kid-free time in nature. Sessions are at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Dec. 10, Snow Science • Jan. 14, Lava Lamps • Feb. 11, Seed Balls.
Become a Junior Ranger
Youth ages 7-13: Explore parks like a real park ranger! Earn your Junior Ranger badge by attending two or more events.
Little Parkies
Discover nature with your little one during these fun, educational morning excursions for kids ages 3-7 and their families. Engage in exploratory walks, hands-on learning, nature-based activities and make some crafts to take home.

Seniors Discovering
Senior Saunters
 
Come along on leisurely walks with friendly, older adults on the first Tuesday of each month. Learn about local plants and animals on a gentle 2-mile saunter along some of the county’s most accessible and beautiful trails. No registration required.
Winging it Wednesdays
These leisurely bird walks, held on the last Wednesday of the month, are designed for older adults with all levels of birding experience. No registration required.
Park Preview Days
Mark West Creek Preview
Explore Mark West Creek, a future regional park. Discover its riparian woodlands, towering redwoods and beautiful views. Park staff and volunteers will be available to answer questions and point out the land’s features. Registration required. Register: Dec. 17, 10 a.m.
Carrington Coast Ranch Preview
 
Take in sweeping views of the Sonoma Coast from these 335 rolling acres known as Carrington Coast Ranch, a future regional park. Catch a shuttle to the property and enjoy a self-guided hike. Earth Helpers
Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service
In honor of Martin Luther King Jr.'s legacy of community service, interracial cooperation and youth anti-violence, join us for a day of volunteering at Andy’s Unity Park. Volunteers will work on pathways and other landscape projects to keep the park looking great. Register: Monday, Jan. 16, 9 a.m.
Volunteer Work Day: Larson Park
Join the Rotary Club of Sonoma Springs and spend time removing trash from Larson Park. Bordered by Sonoma and Pequeño creeks, this small park is a neighborhood gem. Help keep it clean and tidy for people (and wildlife). Register: Saturday, Dec. 10, 10 a.m.
Volunteer Work Day: Monte Rio Redwoods
 
Work alongside other community members to steward one of Sonoma County’s future parks. Monte Rio Redwoods is a 515-acre property along Dutch Bill Creek. Once it opens to the public, it will offer opportunities for hiking, picnicking, horseback riding or mountain biking under the redwoods. Register: Sunday, Feb. 26, 9 a.m.
