From: State Street Theater Company

State Street Theater Co. is pleased to announce their 2022 Summer Drama Camp, Honk, Jr.  as this summer’s workshop production.  Adapted for young performers, and with a score by George Stiles and Anthony Drewe (Mary Poppins), Honk! JR. is a heartwarming celebration of being different that is sure to delight audiences of all ages with its sparkling wit, unique charm, and memorable score.  Witty and hilarious, but also deeply moving, Honk! JR. will treat you to equal amounts of laughter and tears.

Ugly looks quite a bit different from his darling duckling brothers and sisters. The other animals on the farm are quick to notice and point this out, despite his mother’s protective flapping. Feeling rather foul about himself, the little fowl finds himself on an adventure of self-discovery, all the while unknowingly outwitting a very hungry Cat. Along the way, Ugly meets a whole flock of unique characters and finds out being different is not a bad thing to be.

Director in Residence, Carrie Dabelow, who hails from Rockford, Illinois, is bringing an amazingly talented team of individuals to provide children with a drama experience like none other.  Drama Camp is an awesome opportunity for students to create a sophisticated piece of art, collaborate with kids of all ages, and enjoy every minute of rehearsal.

Drama Camp will feature lessons designed to introduce students to a wide range of theatrical skills like performance, design, direction, and technical theater through the lens of the show.  All of this is done by employing student-driven, project-based learning through an experience intended to challenge students academically and artistically.

Drama Camp is organized into a half-day, three-week experience for student ages 8-17.  The camp schedule begins promptly on June 20- July 1 at 8:00 a.m. and concludes at 12:00 noon for the first two weeks of camp.  Tech week will be occurring July 5-8 and will begin promptly at 9:00 a.m. and concludes at 3:00 p.m. Participants are asked to bring a packed lunch each day of tech week.  The camp then concludes with the three performances on July 8-10.  Attendance is required at all three performances.

Cost is $20 per participant which includes a show shirt.   Scholarships are available by calling 507-359-9990.  Children should wear comfortable clothes and tennis shoes with socks daily.

You may stop into the theater, located at 1 N. State Street to register your child.  Please enter through door #7 off the back parking lot during the hours of 8:00 am to 4:00 pm Monday through Friday or by calling the theater at 507-359-9990.  Registration is open immediately and is limited to the first 35 kids.  All participants are cast in the show.

We are also looking for volunteers/parents who would be available during rehearsals, assist with costumes, make-up or are simply willing to supervise students during the performance.  All volunteers must agree to a background check.
