Paper Bowl Scarecrow Face
Scarecrows are iconic symbols of the fall season. Create a playful scarecrow face using simple materials, including a paper bowl, buttons, and construction paper.

Tissue Paper Stained Glass Apple
Create the illusion of stained glass using a colorful assortment of tissue and construction paper. Use our template to create an apple-shaped frame to fill with small pieces of tissue paper and hang it in a window once you get home.

Mini beaded fall corn is fun to create and is a festive craft the whole family can do. These adorable beaded corns can be turned into fall garland or given as gifts to family and friends at the Thanksgiving table.

Scarecrow Construction
Our scarecrow construction tent is a fall family tradition! Protect your fall crops or decorate your home with a handmade scarecrow. Choose an outfit from an assortment of shirts and pants, or bring an outfit to stuff with straw.

Mayan Sacred Kites

Observe and help Folklife resident artist Ubaldo Sanchez create sacred kites from bamboo and tissue paper. Also known as Barriletes Gigantes (Huge Kites), they are made for the Day of the Dead. Kites fly to the heavens to ward off evil spirits who may disturb our dead ancestors and invite them to visit us. Their sizes vary from 6 to 52 feet in diameter, as well as their designs and decoration. The kites created during this residency will become a part of a special Day of the Dead art installation during WheatonArts HalloWheaton event on Saturday, Oct. 29.
