The Art League of Long Island launches the first initiative sponsored by TD Bank, Youth PRIDE in the Arts | Mentoring & Scholarship Program.

Long Island, NY - [August 21, 2023] The Art League of Long Island is thrilled to announce the launch of its groundbreaking initiative, the Youth PRIDE in the Arts | Mentoring & Scholarship Program, generously sponsored by TD Bank. More than just an art program, this transformative venture aims to empower LGBTQ+ youth and allies by providing them with a safe space to explore their identities, amplify their voices, and celebrate their unique contributions to the world of art.

Through a combination of mentorship, self-expression, and community building, this program is set to create a more inclusive and diverse artistic landscape, where participants can thrive and leave a lasting impact. The Art League recognizes the significance of fostering an environment where every individual can express themselves freely, without the fear of judgment or discrimination. The Youth PRIDE in the Arts program ensures respect and sensitivity to individual experiences. It is designed to create a sense of belonging and community, enabling students to not only develop their artistic skills but also build a deeper connection with their own identities. The program is open to all students in grades 9-12, encompassing those within the LGBTQ+ community, nonidentified individuals, and allies seeking a secure space to cultivate their artistic and professional practices. This initiative offers an opportunity for participants to engage with their identity through art, conversations, and selfreflection. As a testament to their commitment to nurturing emerging talent, the Art League will also award one of the selected students an additional scholarship known as the "YPA Scholarship." This scholarship is equivalent to 35 free class hours at the Art League, a token of support for the students' dedication and potential. The scholarship recipient will be chosen based on a set of criteria weighing the quality of their work and their financial needs.

Applications for the program will be accepted through September 20, 2023. The selected students will participate in a transformative 7-month mentorship program, running from October 2023 to April 2024. During this time, students will collaborate closely with experienced mentors Liv Cocozza and Stephanie Folk, using their personal experiences within the LGBTQ+ community to shape their artwork, personal narratives, and long-term artistic aspirations. The program will culminate with an exhibition of the participants' work at the Art League's Pride Festival in June 2024.

The Teen Pride in the Arts Mentorship Program offers a comprehensive set of benefits, including:

4 free hours of class time per month with Art Mentor Stephanie Folk, allowing students to experiment with various artistic mediums.

1 free hour per month with LGBTQ+ Mentor Liv Cocozza, focusing on navigating the world while discovering one's identity.

Additional mentorship through TD Bank, providing participants the chance to connect with professionals from various fields.

Access to the Lorraine Graves Grace Memorial Library, with an extensive collection of over 2,500 art books for study and reference.

Promotion of students and their work on the Art League's website and social media platforms.

Culmination in an exhibit at the Pride Festival in ALLI's Strolling Gallery in June 2024, ensuring visibility for their artwork.

The Art League is excited to collaborate with TD Bank to create an environment where aspiring young artists can flourish, irrespective of their identities. This program aligns perfectly with our mission of fostering artistic growth and community development. For students wishing to further their creative exploration, the program offers specialized workshops and support while also providing the opportunity to gain valuable experience in the arts industry through volunteering and active participation in event planning.
