(Albany, NY): For the seventh year, the performing arts centers at The Egg and the University at Albany have announced that they will present Dance in Albany, a joint dance series featuring ten offerings for the 2022-23 season.  Seven of the performances will take place at The Egg at the Empire State Plaza with the remaining three at the UAlbany Performing Arts Center on the uptown University at Albany campus.

Dance styles featured in this year’s series are ballet, modern, tap and Irish dance with several companies on the roster offer a unique fusion of illusion and motion.  Highlights include an international troupe on its first US tour, several companies celebrating multi-decade anniversaries and a collaboration between two New York City based ensembles.  Half of the companies on the slate have women at the artistic helm.

Starting June 24, dance enthusiasts have the opportunity to purchase a package with a ticket to each performance for $130, a savings of more than 50% off the individual prices. Subscriptions that include six and four performances will also be available at a savings of 25% and 10%, respectively. Individual tickets will go on sale that same day. Urban Bush Women at the UAlbany Performing Arts Center

MOMIX at The Egg

Thursday, October 6 at 7:30pm, $36

Transporting audiences from their everyday lives to a fantasy world through its trademark use of magical lighting and imagery, this athletic troupe combines riveting music, outrageous costumes, inventive props and pure talent to create an entertaining multimedia experience that will surprise, enchant and astonish. The beloved company is celebrating over 40 years of international touring with their retrospective VIVAMOMIX show.

Limón Dance Company at The Egg

Friday, October 21 at 8pm, $34

At the vanguard of American modern dance since its inception in 1946 and acclaimed for its dramatic expression, technical mastery, and expansive yet nuanced movement in both classic works and new commissions from contemporary choreographers, this celebrated company illustrates the timelessness of José Limón’s work and vision through the lens of Artistic Director Dante Puleio.

La Serpiente at the UAlbany Performing Arts Center

Sunday, November 13 at 7:30pm, $10-$20

On its debut tour in the United States, this independent contemporary dance company is based out of Morelia, Michoacán, Mexico. Since their first production in 2001, they have created their own style of feeling and communicating with the world, creating an ensemble that is a convergence of movement and the aesthetic vision of the group’s members. Treatise About the Line is a contemporary dance performance that explores the complexity of bodies moving through space and time.

Widely recognized for its full-throttle partnering, athleticism, rigorous technique, emotional depth and numerous groundbreaking collaborations, this San-Francisco based company is celebrating 50+ years.  Its ten dancers present an eclectic trio of works exploring our environment, forms of communication and the mathematics of Euclid, all created by a foursome of formidable females: artistic director Brenda Way, associate choreographer Kimi Okada, fellow KT Nelson and guest choreographer Kate Weare.

New York Theatre Ballet with Bridgman|Packer Dance at The Egg

Known for its theatrical expressiveness and intimate accessibility, NYTB offers works by Jerome Robbins and Pam Tanowitz accompanied by live music as well as Toulouse's Dreams choreographed by Art Bridgman and Myrna Packer, renowned for their innovative integration of choreography and video technology that explodes into a magically populated stage where image and reality collide. Bridgman|Packer Dance will also perform an excerpt from their groundbreaking showpiece, Under the Skin.

Paul Taylor Dance Company at The Egg

Saturday, March 4 at 8pm, $34

The legendary choreographer’s works consistently pushed the boundaries of modern dance. His love of painting, poetry, and nature provided a rich palette for exploring the human condition in transcendent ways. Through the leadership of Artistic Director Michael Novak, Taylor’s company will perform a mix of classics as well as dances by choreographers who have been inspired by Taylor’s signature choreographic style.

Dublin Irish Dance at The Egg

Featuring exquisite Irish and World champion dancers together with Ireland’s finest musical and vocal virtuosos, the traditions of the Emerald Isle are explored in this new show, Wings.  With its transformative emotional energy and imaginative design, this ground-breaking production of original music and choreography offers audiences of all ages a vivid and illuminating portrayal of Irish-American culture.
