Thursday, August 24 at 12pm - The MTH&M and Capital Classics presents THE GREAT WHITE BARD: How to Love Shakespeare While Talking About Race with Dr. Farah Karim-Cooper, head of Higher Education & Research at Shakespeare's Globe in London (Virtual)

Combining piercing analysis of race, gender, and otherness in Shakespeare’s famous plays with a radical reappraisal of Elizabethan London, The Great White Bard asks us neither to idealize nor bury Shakespeare but instead to look him in the eye and reckon with the discomforts of his plays, playhouses, and society. In inviting new perspectives and interpretations, we may yet prolong and enrich his extraordinary legacy.

Did Thou Know...

"All the rest of his vast history, as furnished by the biographers, is built up, course upon course, of guesses, inferences, theories, conjectures--an Eiffel Tower of artificialities rising sky-high from a very flat and very thin foundation of inconsequential facts."

- Is Shakespeare Dead?

One of Mark Twain's little-known works, Is Shakespeare Dead? is an extended semi-autobiographical essay published in book form in 1909. In this volume, Twain jumps into the age-old debate on whether or not Shakespeare wrote his own works. This was the final book by Twain published during Samuel Clemens' lifetime. You can read it online HERE or watch an actor perform an abridged version HERE.
