Water Protection Rights and Spirituality

TUESDAY, October 18 at 6:30 PM

Join us as we honor Indigenous Peoples Day at a special program that will open with traditional Danza and prayer, and will be followed by a panel discussion on Water Protection Rights. The participants will be Hiawatha Brown (Narragansett Elder), Liz Santana-Kiser (Nipmuc Elder) Kasike Jorge Estevez (Taino) and Robert Quesada (Mexika/Aztec).
Learn about:
Indigenous Spirituality as it relates to water
Issues concerning water quality, fishing rights, and industrial pollution
Land rights and what we can do to contribute to equitable access for all

Making Comics with Jarrett J. Krosoczka

Meet comics creator Jarrett J. Krosoczka at 3:30 PM on Thursday, October 20, at the Brookline Village Library in Hunneman Hall on our second floor. At this event, Jarrett J. Krosoczka will discuss how he got to be a cartoonist and break down how and why comics work. He will be doing live demos of drawing and will have time to answer questions. Titles will be on sale courtesy of the Brookline Booksmith and there will be a signing following the event.

Jarrett J. Krosoczka, known since boyhood as “JJK,” is the New York Times bestselling author/illustrator behind more than forty books for young readers, including his wildly popular Lunch Lady graphic novels, select volumes of the Star Wars™: Jedi Academy series, and Hey, Kiddo, which was a National Book Award Finalist. Krosoczka creates books with humor, heart, and deep respect for his young readers—qualities that have made his titles perennial favorites on the bookshelves of homes, libraries, and bookstores over the past twenty years.

This event is limited to 90 participants (including chaperones.) Please have at least one chaperone per two children. Masks encouraged. This event is presented in partnership with the Massachusetts Independent Comics Expo (MICE) and generously sponsored by the Friends of the Brookline Library.
