This Week At Mosesian Arts - August 17, 2022

Arts and Entertainment

August 17, 2022

From: The Dorothy and Charles Mosesian Center for the Arts

This week at Mosesian Arts, see the final performances of a world premiere play or attend a festival of South Asian theater. Also plan ahead for the end of our summer film series, an artist talk and gallery reception, and an open mic comedy night!

Mommy, Are We Poor? | Through August 20

See the world premiere of a play that explores financial and moral challenges in a tale for our times.

Chelsea is a widowed single mom with two jobs, two kids, too many bills — with Christmas approaching, and no money for presents. Her boss offers to help, but it's not the kind of help she had in mind. Can this struggling family get out of a 100-foot hole with a 50-foot ladder?

Playwright Richard Ravosa’s drama, Mommy, Are We Poor?, is directed by Greg Allen, Professor of Theater, Northeastern University, and presented by Six Corners Entertainment. The Wednesday, August 17, performance is pay-what-you-can to remove any cost barrier from seeing the show.

South Asian-American Theater Festival | August 19-21

Spearheaded by the Boston-based non-profit theater group Off-Kendrik, the South Asian-American Theater Festival is a three-day celebration of the performing arts — plays, stand-up, storytelling, seminars — that brings together multiple creative groups.

The narratives address a range of issues in multiple languages, from politics in their countries of origin and experiences of immigration to complexities of ethnicity, gender, and sexuality. More than simply a celebration of multiculturalism, the festival provides an opportunity for education and enrichment, for South Asians themselves and others.
