Bikes for Kids Surprise – Monday continues a series of surprise bike giveaways at GCS. The district has partnered with more than 20 sponsors and the Bikes for Kids Foundation to distribute brand-new bikes to third-grade students. Three essay writers will be “winners” at the event and will receive bikes. However, at the end of the assembly, all third graders will be given bikes as a surprise! (We want you to come, but please don’t publicize ahead of time. We want the secret to stay intact!) The first events are at Johnson Street Global at 8:15 a.m., Rankin Elementary at 10:30 a.m. and Kirkman Park Elementary at 1 p.m.

Principal for a Day – Guilford Education Alliance is hosting Principal for a Day. This is a time when business and community members can shadow principals. This year, the event has expanded to include a bus driver, a custodian, a nutrition services worker, and Superintendent Dr. Whitney Oakley. This experience begins at 8 a.m. and ends at noon.

Hiring Fair- Guilford County Schools (GCS) is looking for candidates to join its teaching staff. GCS is holding a hiring fair for people interested in careers in education. Candidates will have the opportunity to interview and be hired on the spot for Elementary, Math, Science, Social Studies and English teaching positions, as well as K-12 Exceptional Children general and adapted teaching positions. GCS staff will be onsite to educate applicants on the district’s competitive pay and excellent benefits, including a $10,000 signing bonus for qualified applicants. The event is from 4 to 6 p.m. at Guilford Elementary School. Pre-registration on https://bit.ly/gcsteacherfair is strongly encouraged.

Thursday, December 8

Career and College Promise- Parents of high school juniors and seniors can learn more about GTCC’s Career and College Promise program. The program allows students to earn college credit tuition-free while still in high school. The event starts at 6 p.m. in the auditorium at the Koury Hospitality Careers Center on E. Main Street in Jamestown. Families can use this link to register.

Friday, December 9

Final Bikes for Kids Surprise – Bikes for Kids surprise is scheduled for several schools between 8:15 a.m. and 1 p.m. Please call/email for times and locations.

Blessing Boxes- Northern Elementary staff have purchased toiletries and other necessities to create Blessing Boxes. On Friday, students will assist staff in assembling the boxes and creating notes of hope before they are delivered to the Weaver House, a shelter operated by Greensboro Urban Ministries. Blessing Box assembly starts at 8 a.m.
