Veterans Day Commemorations

November 10 – Who: Millis Road Elementary School

Author Katy Torney will visit 4th and 5th-grade students at 9:00 am to talk about her books, including “Boots,” which tells the story of a service dog. A veteran will also visit with students with their service dog to show and tell students how these important companions are trained.

November 11 – Who: Ragsdale High JROTC

Flag raising to kick off Jamestown Veterans Committee’s Veterans Day event at 11:00 am.

Glenn Wrenn Miller Park in Jamestown

Veterans Dinner at 4:30 pm

Color Guard presentation at the marine Crops League fundraiser from 7:00 am to 11:00 am

November 12 – Who: Grimsley JROTC

Participating in NC ALS Chapter Walk at 9:00 am.

Center City Park, Greensboro

Who: Ragsdale High JRTOC

Beginning at 8:00 am, members will collect flags from the head stones of veterans at the cemetery next to Linebery Funeral home on West Gate City Blvd, Greensboro.

Monday, November 7

Celebration of Learning – Guilford County Schools and Ed Farm is celebrating its first cohort of teachers to complete the Teacher Fellows Program. The opportunity is designed to equip educators with tools, skills and strategies related to integrating technology in the classroom. Each fellow had to complete 70 hours of professional development and earn their Apple Teacher Certifications. The celebration is from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm at T. Wingate Andrews High School.

Wednesday, November 9

Dual Generation Workforce Initiative Information Session- Parents and guardians of Guilford County students can now enroll in a new Information Technology (IT) certification program. Guilford County Schools (GCS) is proud to launch the Dual-Generation Workforce Initiative (DGWI). The program will train and certify parents and guardians for high-skill, high-wage and in-demand industry pathways. The free program and childcare are available thanks to our partnership with GuilfordWorks. Parents and guardians who wish to participate must be at least 18 years old and reside in Guilford County. The first virtual information session for the program starts at noon. Those who are interested in attending can sign up here.

Thursday, November 10

Better Together Community Conversation- Superintendent Dr. Whitney Oakley continues her community conversations. At 5:30 pm, she will engage in dialogue with Parents in Greensboro at Page High.

Fund Run- Students at Morehead Elementary will participate in their annual fundraising event. This year, money raised from the Stars on The Run event will be used to purchase a new digital sign for the school. Students hit the track at 8:50 am. The event ends at 2:00 pm.

The federal program covering the costs of school meals has ended. Families must apply online to receive free meals by visiting www.lunchapplication.com.
