A-wop-bop-a-loo-bop,

Musically, "TRUTTI FRUTTI" and "NAATU NAATU" come from two very different cultures -- the first is of course one of Little Richard's iconic hits from the 1950s. The second, is the recent Best Oscar winner for Original Song, from the Indian film RRR. We get to experience both this week. We also revisit THE LOST WEEKEND, the 18-month relationship between John Lennon and May Pang while he was separated from Yoko Ono, c. 1973-74.

Our Wednesday night series with our favorite Film Noir aficionado, Paul Karasik continues. Come join us for some Pinot Noir and dark chocolate beforehand.

NEW THIS WEEK...

LITTLE RICHARD: I AM EVERYTHING - SUNDANCE Opening Night Film. Sneak Peak One-Night-Only, April 11th. Through a wealth of archive and performance that brings us into Richard’s complicated inner world, the film unspools the icon’s life story with all its switchbacks and contradictions. In interviews with family, musicians, and cutting-edge Black and queer scholars, the film reveals how Richard created an art form for ultimate self-expression, yet what he gave to the world he was never able to give to himself. Throughout his life, Richard careened like a shiny cracked pinball between God, sex, and rock n’ roll.

Wednesday's Film Noir Classics Series with introductions by Cartoonist Paul Karasik. Join us in the lobby beforehand for a complimentary glass of Pinot Noir and Dark Chocolate.

NIGHT AND THE CITY - Two-bit hustler Harry Fabian (Richard Widmark) longs for “a life of ease and plenty.” Trailed by an inglorious history of go-nowhere schemes, he tries to hatch a lucrative plan with a famous wrestler. But there is no easy money in this underworld of shifting alliances, bottomless graft, and pummeled flesh—and Fabian soon learns the horrible price of his ambition. Luminously shot in the streets of London while Hollywood blacklisters back home were closing in on director Jules Dassin, Night and the City, also starring Gene Tierney, is film noir of the first order, and one of Dassin’s crowning achievements.

MAFIA MAMMA - An American mom (Toni Colette) inherits her grandfather's mafia empire in Italy. Guided by the firm's consigliere (Monica Bellucci), she hilariously defies everyone's expectations as the new head of the family business. The Godfather meets Housewives of Beverly Hills is the best way to describe this crime story comedy.

THE LOST WEEKEND: A LOVE STORY - A love story that took 50 years to tell, "The Lost Weekend: A Love Story" explores the 18-month romantic  relationship between John Lennon and his Chinese-American assistant May Pang in 1973-74 after he split from Yoko Ono, and reconciled with both his son Julian and former Beatles bandmate Paul McCartney.

RRR and special pre-show tasting (6:15PM) complimentary appetizers courtesy of BOMBAY INDIAN MV (Oak Bluffs).
Winner of the Academy Award for Best Original Song - “Naatu Naatu”. The global smash hit epic from India! A fearless warrior on a perilous mission comes face to face with a steely cop serving British forces in this epic saga set in pre-independent India.

MET OPERA LIVE: DER ROSENKAVALIER - A dream cast assembles for Strauss’s grand Viennese comedy. Soprano Lise Davidsen is the aging Marschallin, opposite mezzo-soprano Samantha Hankey as her lover Octavian and soprano Erin Morley as Sophie, the beautiful younger woman who steals his heart. Bass Gu?nther Groissbo?ck returns as the churlish Baron Ochs, and Markus Bru?ck is Sophie’s wealthy father, Faninal. Maestro Simone Young takes the Met podium to oversee Robert Carsen’s fin-de-sie?cle staging.

CONTINUING THIS WEEK...

RETURN TO SEOUL - After an impulsive travel decision to visit friends, Freddie (Ji-Min Park), 25, returns to South Korea for the first time, where she was born before being adopted and raised in France. Freddie suddenly finds herself embarking on an unexpected journey in a country she knows so little about, taking her life in new and unexpected directions. A funny, melancholy, music-laced film that surprised me from start to finish.
NY Times Critics Pick and 97% Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes.

THE LOST KING is a British comedy-drama film directed by Stephen Frears and written by Steve Coogan (THE TRIP) and Jeff Pope, based on the 2013 book "The King's Grave: The Search for Richard III" by Philippa Langley and Michael Jones. In this inspiring true story, amateur historian Philippa Langley believes she has made the archeological find of the century: the lost burial site of King Richard III. She takes on Britain's most eminent historians, forcing them to rethink the legacy of one of the most controversial rulers in English history. Co-starring Sally Hawkins, Steve Coogan, and Mark Addy.
