From: Town Of Boxborough

At Annual Town Meeting in May, Boxborough residents voted to purchase over 21 acres of forest land at 95-105 Sargent Rd., with the hopes that the burden to the taxpayer would be reduced by the receipt of grants and donations. On September 20th at an event in Lowell, the Lt. Governor and Energy and Environmental Affairs Secretary announced that Boxborough was awarded a $400,000 LAND grant to support that purchase. Boxborough was one of 45 communities that received a combined total of $12 million in funds for open space acquisition and park improvements (and one of 10 communities state-wide to receive a LAND grant). This acquisition will add over 21 acres of important habitat and watershed protection to the Town's inventory of open space. Sudbury Valley Trustees (SVT) is assisting the Town with the acquisition and will hold a conservation restriction on the property. The Conservation Commission and Agricultural Commission will hold the fee on the property, which will be protected in perpetuity and managed for sustainable forestry. Many thanks go to the volunteers, staff members, and the Boxborough Conservation Trust, who contributed to this purchase and assisted with this grant application. The remaining cost to the town is $261,000 for the $1,275,000 project.
