Boxborough Appoints New Interim Police Chief

The Town of Boxborough has appointed and is excited to welcome John Szewczyk as Interim Chief of Police. He served the Capitol City Police Department in Hartford with distinction for 18 years where he served as both an Officer and as a Supervisor. He was then appointed as the only active-duty police officer to the State of Connecticut’s Task force on Police Transparency and Accountability where he served for over 2 years. He was also elected and served for three years as President of the 450-member Hartford Police Union and he also authored both the Hartford Police Department’s Recruitment and Retention Initiatives which led to an 80% increase in Minority Officer recruitment. He was also a certified Police Academy Instructor in various subject matters.

Chief Szewczyk obtained his Bachelor’s Degree from Trinity College, as well as obtained his Master’s Degree from the University of Connecticut. He also obtained the State of Connecticut Police Officer Standards and Training Council’s Police Instructor Certification. As well as graduating from the Southern Police Institute’s Command Officers Development Course.

Michael Johns, Town Administrator said, “Chief Szewczyk has served the officers and residents of Connecticut extremely well, and I am excited to utilize his experience in the service of the residents, officers, staff and visitors in Boxborough.” Additionally, Chief Szewczyk stated, “I’m looking forward to working with the devoted members of the Boxborough Police Department to ensure quality public safety services are delivered to all residents and visitors in the most transparent and accountable manner possible”.
