Town Of Newbury - New Bylaw Draft

Government and Politics

June 23, 2022

From: Town Of Newbury
A new bylaw draft has been uploaded to the website! This new draft is a proposal for an entirely new bylaw, separate from the current Wetland Bylaw (Chapter 95) that is specific to Plum Island. The new bylaw draft is specific to Inland Areas only (i.e. anything west of the Plum Island Bridge, not directly connected to or located on the barrier beach). The intent of developing this new bylaw draft is to completely separate this bylaw, and any future proposed regulations, from the current bylaw as it stands related to Plum Island. We have many valuable and critically important resources in town that are considered coastal which are not located on or associated with Plum Island, and we want to make sure that we can still provide regulations to protect those areas without any of the language opening us up to the possibility of inadvertently implementing additional regulations on Plum Island. We are striving to eliminate confusion and frustration amongst residents, and we hope that the development of this new bylaw draft is a step in the right direction of doing so.

Please note that this draft has been provided to, but has not been fully reviewed by the Conservation Commission. This document will be formally presented and discussed in the June 28, 2022 bylaw workshop.
