The Town of Wilton’s Building Department is seeking applicants for the position of Assistant Building Official. The position is responsible for the administration and enforcement of local codes, ordinances, and the Connecticut State Building Code.

Required Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:

Ability to exhibit tact and diplomacy with the highest level of professionalism in dealing with other employees and the public;
Ability to analyze, interpret, and apply regulations and state statutes;
Ability to read and interpret plans and related documents;
Ability to prepare concise and accurate reports, permits, and correspondence;
Ability to coordinate activities with appropriate departments;
Ability to counsel appropriate parties in matters which may affect the operation of the department;
Ability to operate a computer and utilize Microsoft office products along with permitting software to generate documents, spreadsheets and reports;
Physical ability to reach job sites for inspections and to conduct inspections, which may involve bending, lifting, stretching, and climbing over rough terrain;
Ability to drive a four-wheel drive vehicle and manual transmission;
Perform related duties as necessary or required.

Minimum Requirements:

High school diploma;
State certification as an Assistant Building Official or Building Official required; and
maintain qualifications as outlined in the Conn. Gen. Stat. Sec. 29-261;
Valid State of Connecticut driver’s license required;
Basic knowledge of PC-based software;
Minimum of five years of experience in the construction field, design or supervision.

Salary Range is $70,274-$77,238 with competitive benefits package including health, dental, vision, life and disability insurance coverage as well as participation in the Town’s defined contribution retirement plan. Equal Opportunity Employer (EOE).
