Fire Commission Chairperson J. Casey Healy announces the hiring of Michael Baumblatt and Zachary Terenzio as Wilton’s newest probationary firefighters, effective August 15, 2022. Firefighters Baumblatt and Terenzio were sworn in Monday at Fire Headquarters by Town Clerk Lori Kaback, with their families in attendance.

According to Fire Chief Jim Blanchfield, the process to hire a new firefighter in Wilton is comprehensive, starting with written and oral examinations conducted by the Connecticut Firefighter Testing Consortium and passing the Connecticut Physical Agility Test. Panel interviews are then conducted by the Wilton Fire Department
administration. Finally, selected candidates go before the Fire Commission which ultimately extends a provisional offer to candidates, who then go through a series of post-offer, pre-employment tests, including a detailed background investigation. “Zach and Michael are very motivated and capable individuals. We look forward to them joining our team” said Blanchfield.

According to Commissioners Healy, Terrie Schwartz, and John Hall, “the Fire Commission was pleased to extend these offers of employment and look forward to both continuing their careers with the Wilton Fire Department.”

Terenzio has previous experience with both the South District, Middletown Fire Department, as well as the Echo Hose Volunteer Fire Department in Shelton, Connecticut. Baumblatt is currently a paramedic with the Ossining Volunteer Ambulance Corp in Ossining, NY and previously served with the Ridgefield Fire Department as a Firefighter/Paramedic. “Obviously, both firefighters Baumblatt and Terenzio are dedicated to emergency services work that will benefit the Town of Wilton”, said Chief Blanchfield.
