STORRS, CT -- On September 6, 2022, the Undergraduate Student Government at the University of Connecticut will be launching the annual Husky Market program aimed at reducing food insecurity among students.

The program began following a 2020 study that found that more than 55% of UConn students experience some level of food insecurity.

This is the second year that the Undergraduate Student Government will be providing students with $300 grocery store gift cards to ensure they can purchase healthy groceries. The application is open to all undergraduate students studying on the Storrs campus.

“No student should ever have to go to bed hungry and we are so excited to bring the program back for another year,” says Peter Spinelli, Vice President of the Undergraduate Student Government.

Despite pushback from our administration, it is anticipated that Husky Market will reach over 1,500 students giving out over $450,000 worth of grocery gift cards. It is our goal to continue growing this program to impact even more students in the coming years.
