Discover the Difference

Urbandale is Home to one of the Largest 4th of July Celebrations in the Area!

We invite you to bring your family and celebrate Independence Day in Urbandale.  The Urbandale 4th of July celebration is the largest celebration in the Des Moines metro area.  This event is held at Lion’s Park in the heart of Urbandale.  This long standing tradition includes a 2 mile long parade, a premier carnival, entertainment garden, live music as well as a variety of other activities.  The annual community event is organized by a group of volunteers and is primarily self funded with help from local business sponsors and fundraising.

Extra handicap parking will be available during July 2-4 at Urbandale Senior Recreation Center. Lost & Found and the Police Command Post are located inside Lions Park Shelter House.

Schedule:

Saturday, July 1, 2023

4:30 – 9:30pm: Urbandale Schools and Alumni Foundation’s Fourth Annual U-Fest – Giovannetti Community Shelter at Walker Johnston Park

The Urbandale Schools and Alumni Foundation’s Fourth Annual U-Fest is slated to take place on Saturday, July 1, 2023 from 4:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Giovannetti Community Shelter at Walker Johnston Park. U-Fest is a fun, festive, family-friendly event featuring live music, food, drinks and prizes!

All proceeds will be for student scholarships and classroom grants. At last year’s U-Fest, roughly $5,000 was raised as part of the $23,000 awarded for classroom grants for Urbandale educators and $18,000 for scholarships for Urbandale students.

“We are looking forward to hosting another festive U-Fest event in support of our mission to enhance educational opportunities for Urbandale Community School District students, teachers and staff,” said Meribeth Haynes, president of the Urbandale Schools & Alumni Foundation. “U-Fest is a great opportunity for the community to enjoy a casual social environment together and alumni to reconnect.”
