From: Texas Governor Greg Abbott

The U.S. Department of Education, Office of Civil Rights (OCR) has announced that it intends to propose amendments to the Department’s regulations implementing Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 is a civil rights law prohibiting discrimination on the basis of disability. As part of this process, OCR is seeking written suggestions from the public, providing an opportunity for your voice to be heard, about how best to improve the current regulations. The 504 regulations have not been revised since they were issued in 1977. New rules will impact independent school districts  as well as state colleges and universities.
