From: USC Fisher Museum Of Art

On view through December 3, 2022

This traveling exhibition explores the prolific drawing and writing practice of Louise Bourgeois with more that 100 works from the 1940s to the early 2000s

USC Fisher Museum of Art is proud to present Louise Bourgeois: What is the Shape of This Problem?, from the Collections of Jordan D. Schnitzer and His Family Foundation this fall.

The exhibition presents 145 works with a focus on prints, textiles, and a series of eight holograms, ranging in date from the 1940s to the early 2000s. These works build on the raw emotional terrain of Bourgeois’ practice, and explore feelings of isolation, anger, and fear through the recurring depiction of the body, childhood, family, architecture, and the passage of time.

Enjoy our playlist inspired by Bourgeois' passion and vulnerability expressed in our exhibition, Louise Bourgeois: What is the Shape of This Problem?, on view at Fisher.

Mixtografia Studio 1419 E Adams Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90011

Shaye Remba, Director of Mixografia will lead a tour of the notable printmaking shop established in 1984 in Los Angeles. The fine art printing studio is best known for developing Mixografia®, an innovative three-dimensional printing technique using handmade paper. The workshop employed these processes to a fine degree in Louise Bourgeois’ Crochet series, in which the artist’s meandering and twisting compositions fluctuate between a sense of harmony and disorder. Mixografia has worked with major artists such as John Baldisseri, Helen Frankenthaler, Ed Ruscha, Rufino Tamayo, and Jonas Wood. Space is limited. RSVP is required to attend.

Please note that attendees will be meeting at Mixografia. Transportation to the printshop will not be organized by the Fisher Museum.

Saturday, November 19 at 12:00pm to 3:00pm

With the use of raw materials with personal and historical significance, participants will be introduced to the use of doll making as a tool to process trauma and life transitions while strengthening social, emotional, and cognition skills. In addition, participants will learn about the theoretical orientations underlying this model, and the application of crafting/making as a culturally relevant approach to addressing trauma and transitions across identities, culture, and family structure.

Must be 18 years and older. Participants will be asked to bring a piece of clothing and or images from someone who has been supportive or important in their lives, an inspirational quote or music lyric, and any special materials they would like to add to their doll.
