Call for Submissions

The Villagers Board of Directors, and the Production Selection Committee, is seeking potential Directors for our 2023-2024 season. Initially, Directors are asked to submit a simple list of the titles and authors of plays/musicals that they would like to direct. We also request that they submit a current resume.

If the Committee chooses to further consider one, or more, of a Director's submissions, we will then ask that they provide us with a copy of the script(s) for each production. They will then be scheduled for an interview with the Committee.

At the time of the interview, they will be asked to:

1. Describe why they wish to direct that particular play/musical.

2. Discuss their vision for each production (i.e. production values, concept, casting, budget needs, etc.)

3. Discuss why they feel it would be a great addition to the Villagers Season.

4. Discuss rehearsal protocols within the building, and other pertinent Villagers Theatre information

We would also like to note that, although we have Production Staff available, Directors are encouraged to have a Production Staff idea in place before their interview. Directors are always welcomed to bring in other Production Staff members to work on their show (Designers, Choreographers, Stage Managers, etc.).

Please note that Villagers will only consider shows that have not been produced on the Main Stage in the last 10 years. A list of past productions can be found at: www.villagerstheatre.com/pastshows/

The Play Selection Committee will be accepting submissions from many Directors. We expect that some shows will be submitted by more than one Director. Should that occur, it will be at the sole discretion of the Committee to select the Director for that Production.

Directors should list their submissions in order of preference and let us know which of the following time slots best suits your schedule. The season will generally run as follows, with our recommendations in parentheses:

MAIN STAGE - Stipend Positions

Show #1 September (a comedy or drama)

Show #2 November (a musical)

Show #3 February (a small musical or comedy)

Show #4 April (a comedy or drama)

Show #5 June (a musical)

BLACKBOX - Non-Stipended Positions

Show #1 - October*

Show #2 - January

Show #2 May (New Playwrights Original Work)

KIDSVILL Non-Stipended Positions

Show #1 October*

Show #2 December

Show #3 March

All submissions must be completed no later than January 31st, 2023, to be considered.

Please note that show submissions may also be considered for our Black Box series if appropriate.  In that event, you will be contacted by Devin Massih for another Interview.

If you wish to submit titles for KidsVill, you may do so at this time as well!
