March at Wave Hill

Well-timed for the unpredictable turn weather can take in March—especially after a very warm February—Succulent Sunday (Mar 19) is a chance to spend a day indoors learning to cultivate, consume, draw or just admire the remarkable succulents in Wave Hill’s collection.

An Art Conversation (Sun, Mar 5) between exhibiting painter and horticulturist Rebecca Allan and design historian Sarah Lichtman focuses on Allan’s paintings of the gardens and our gardeners at work and, more broadly, how we relate to nature and one another. Then meet the artists in Winter Workspace Session 2 during Drop-in Sundays (Mar 12, 19) and learn how Wave Hill has been a source of inspiration for these artists.

As the month ends, our final 2023 Horticultural Lecture takes place at Wave Hill with a talk by “curious plantsman” Matt Mattus (Wed, Mar 29), including a light reception following the talk. A hands-on garden workshop (Fri, Mar 31) with Associate Director of Horticulture Steven Conaway addresses how to cut back grasses and perennials to manage habitat for overwintering wildlife.

The following weekend, it’s a Meditation and Sound Bath (Sat, Mar 11) session and Spring Birding (Sun, Mar 12). More wonderful sounds come our way with singer-songwriter Alea’s concert in Armor Hall (Sun, Mar 26).

All month long, the Family Art Project offers families a chance to do some natural growing of their own, starting with A Growing Season (Mar 4, 5) and Fibonacci Pinwheels (Mar 10, 11), and finishing up with Divine Desert Dwellers (Mar 18, 19) and Musical Magic (Mar 25, 26).

Drop-in Public Garden and Conservatory Highlights Walks continue Sunday afternoons. Sometimes what we really need is simply the pleasure of a leisurely, informative stroll with a knowledgeable Wave Hill Garden Guide!
