Wave Hill Public Garden and Cultural Center Happenings for May 2023

Clubs and Organizations

April 27, 2023

From: Wave Hill Public Garden and Cultural Center

Mother Nature brought spring to the gardens well before expected this year, April stealing a little of the thunder of the season from May—and bringing our gardeners, along with our newly-settled in John Nally Interns, moving quickly to catch up.

Mother's Day (May 14) always deserves to be a highlight of spring at Wave Hill. This year, it's Spring Birding, Community Yoga and Playful Yoga for Pairs, a floriography Family Art Project, a Garden Highlights Walk and, of course, a rare opportunity to picnic in the spring gardens—bring your own or order from Great Performances by May 6.

Our "Walks with the Gardeners" series continues May 5 with a focus on spring ephemerals along the Shade Border. In addition to Garden Highlights Walks on Sunday afternoons, weekly "bite-sized" Plant Pick-of-the-Day walks resume May 4.

Birding this month includes not just our regular monthly walk (May 14) but a new opportunity: Easy Mindful Birding on May 13.

In addition to the wellness programs on Mother's Day, Weekly Yoga continues through July—except for May 28, Memorial Day weekend.

Glyndor Gallery has reopened with a group show of work by past Winter Workspace artists-in-residence—This Place We Once Remembered—and the first Sunroom Project Space artist of the year (Jae Hi Ahn's The Condolence Story), while Rebecca Allan's installation Cultivating Eden remains on view in Wave Hill House. Meet two of the artists in the group show, Dana Levy and Yelaine Rodriguez, on May 21.

The gardens will be open Memorial Day Monday, but please also make a note in your calendars that the gardens will close at 2PM on Wednesday, May 17, for Wave Hill's Spring Gala.

Families can enjoy artmaking every weekend this month at the Family Art Project: Painting to Migratory Birdsong (May 6/7); Flowers for Mother's Day (May 13/14); My Green Heaven (May 20/21); and Shake a Flower, Wear a Garden (May 27/28).

The Shop at Wave Hill has fantastic selection of stunning items for all of the special ladies in your life to honor on Mother's Day. Wave Hill Members receive 10% off their purchase, as always, and all proceeds go back to our programming and keeping our garden beautiful for years to come.
