CHARLESTON, W.V. – The West Virginia Symphony Orchestra (WVSO) continues its ZMM Architects & Engineers Pop Series with a trip through the world of movie music with Great Movie Soundtracks at the Clay Center.

Music Director Maurice Cohn leads the WV Symphony as they explore the music from our favorite movies, including pieces from E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Star Wars, Harry Potter, Jurassic Park, and more! The Marshall University Symphony Orchestra appears as a special guest for a side-by-side performance of Shostakovich’s Festive Overture and the Star Wars Main Theme. In addition to classicals by John Williams, the orchestra will perform music by Henry Mancini, music from Vertigo, Emma and Coco.

“For many of us, the movies are an essential part of how we fell in love with the sound of an orchestra. Music in film is transformative—it changes the meaning of what is on screen and communicates to us in ways that are otherwise impossible,” said Music Director Maurice Cohn. “We are very excited to be presenting this concert celebrating the remarkable legacy of music at the movies, from famous franchises such as Star Wars and Indiana Jones to film classics such as Alfred Hitchcock’s Vertigo. I hope to see you there!”

The ZMM Architects & Engineers Pops Series concert is made possible by the generous support of ZMM Architects & Engineers, City National Bank, Jackson Kelly, PLLC, and the WV Lottery.

This concert weekend also includes another session of the Maier Foundation’s A Look Behind the Curtain. The music preparedness program is open to current undergraduate and graduate college students studying music and/or arts administration who plan on pursuing a career in performance, conducting, arts management, etc. High school juniors and seniors interested in these career paths are also welcome to attend.
