New Exhibition in the Coca Cola Studio
Rock, Paper, Scissors
Margo Baker and Edward deMahy join together to present a combined body of work that speaks to their respective artistic journey. Margo fines inspiration in the shape, colors, smells and sounds of the capricious Louisiana weather and Louisiana landscape.

Cris Soria: Fragilidad
Artist Statement: In this body of work I am exploring the fear, vulnerability and grief that comes from having an Autoimmune Disease. I use materials common in construction for building homes and shelters to address themes of deterioration and mortality.
These materials have a profound meaning to hold and protect, the same way our bodies have the power to keep us safe, like our own personal shelters. When the body and bones fail and we begin to understand our own frailty, it feels like everything is falling apart.
I’m inspired by my culture’s celebration and remembrance of our deceased loved ones: the Day of the Dead annual tradition that makes death less painful and tragic, for a moment there is color and beauty in loss, but only temporarily. My aim with this work is to acknowledge pain in order to find resilience and acceptance in my own body.
Main Gallery Exhibition
Poétique de l'Ipséité
Explorations in a Redefinition of Francophone Identity
Poetics of Selfhood looks at shared Creole identity through the works of contemporary artists from Martinique, Senegal, Guyana, and Opelousas, Louisiana.
This project is envisioned as a multi-year, multi-destination exhibition, which will grow and adapt to new contexts of the Creole world as it is re-mounted at new destinations across the French-speaking world. The first iteration of this exhibition takes place at Acadiana Center for the Arts, Lafayette, LA, from September 10, 2022 to January 14, 2023.
Poetics of Selfhood aims to expand the understanding of Creole identity as a worldwide cultural identity—”Creolité”—which has a well-developed place in contemporary culture through visual art, performance, and personal expression.
The focus of this exhibition is the work of five artists who deal with notions of Créolité in the subject matter of their works, Gwladys Gambie (Martinique), Rebecca D. Henry (USA), Jérémie Priam (Martinique), Tabita Rézaire (Guyana), and Modou Dieng Yacine (USA/Senegal).
