Nature Tag Sale

Come to the Activity Shed between 11 am and 3pm. Choose something from our eclectic collection of goodies and leave a donation in the jar! No haggling as if you are in a Marrakesh souk!  Why not become a member during your visit or buy a super snazzy bit of White Memorial swag from the gift shop! Early birds will be dispatched in the nicest way possible! Rain or shine! Fresh back from her 53rd visit to her adopted homeland with more pretty photos and stories of elves and Huldfolk, Gerri Griswold takes you on a pictorial journey through the Land of Fire and Ice that will leave you with a complete understanding as to why this island nation has been touted as one of the most beautiful places on our planet. Yoga in the Garden: A Morning Sadhana at White Memorial

In the garden behind the White Memorial Museum, we will practice gentle, Vinyasa yoga as we listen to the birds, feel the morning breezes, and celebrate the warmth of the summer sun. Class will be followed by a brief guided meditation for those who would like to participate. This is an all levels, all ages program and requires no prior yoga or meditation experience! Recent studies have shown the benefits of yoga, which include stress reduction, improvement in strength, flexibility, and balance.

8:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m., Please bring a mat and water (sunscreen/bug repellant if desired). Each class is $10 (with $1 of each going to White Memorial). Come to one, several, or all! For information and to check in event of rain, please call 860-309-9489.

COVID/PAYMENT PROTOCOL: Mats must be at least 6 feet from one another.  Please do not attend class if you aren’t feeling well. Payment may be exchanged without touch through Venmo (to @Judith-Ehrman-Shapiro). Other forms of payment include cash, check, and credit card. The teacher may not have change, so please bring exact amount.

About our Facilitator: Judith Ehrman-Shapiro, PhD, BC-DMT, NCC, RYT is a Board-Certified movement therapist, nationally certified counselor, and a registered yoga teacher. She was a 29-year employee of Waterbury Hospital, and currently operates the Evolving Center, a private practice, in Winsted

Join Gerri Griswold for a night walk. Learn to identify all of those insect, owl, and frog voices that lend such beautiful ambience to a summer evening. Discovery Nature Camp

Kids entering grades 1 & 2 can join us for one, two, or three weeks of outdoor discovery, games, books, songs, and crafts that help them learn more about the natural world around them. Sign up by week. 9:30am – 3:30pm each day. Meet on the Ceder Room lawn in the Main Area. Pre-registration and pre-payment are required. Exploration Nature Camp

Kids entering grades 3 – 9 can join us for week-long sessions that immerse them in nature! All-day adventures will take us to unique parts of White Memorial property, as well as offsite to natural areas throughout northwestern CT. Activities include hiking trails, climbing mountains, learning to identify wildlife, collecting rocks, investigating aquatic life, exploring different ecosystems, and more. 9:30am – 3:30pm each day. Wonder Nature Camp

This weekly two-hour series for 4 & 5 year-olds features stories, songs, crafts, games, and outdoor adventures that introduce young ones to the wonders of nature! Sign up by session. Meet in Nature Museum Children’s Corner. 9:30 – 11:30am. This is designed to be a drop-off program. However, if parents/grandparents would like to stay, please just call to let us know. Nature’s Nursery Series
4:00-5:00pm
Join us on the second Thursday of each month from May-August for an hour-long program designed just for your young nature lovers. Every session will include a story, an encounter with a live animal, and an activity or craft. Parents/Caregivers, we ask that you stay for the duration of the program. Meet in the A.B. An Evening at Little Pond with Gerri Griswold

Join Gerri Griswold in search of Wood Ducks, herons, shore birds, muskrats, beavers, frogs and whatever else Mother Nature decides to dish out at dusk on Little Pond! This hike is limited to 15 participants. 7:00 p.m. , Members: FREE, Non-Members: $5.00, Meet at the White’s Woods Road entrance to Little Pond. STAR PARTY!!!!!

This astronomy program is organized by members of the Litchfield Hills Amateur Astronomy Club and the Mattatuck Astronomical Society. Weather permitting, there will be star gazing after the program. 8:00 p.m., A. B. Ceder Room. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. You are invited to bring your own telescope or binoculars. FREE… Donations will be accepted to help defray the Conservation Center’s programming expenses.

The 12th Annual Celebration for the Bats
Help Gerri Griswold celebrate 30 years of crusading for Bats, our planet’s most extraordinary creature! Our festivities begin with bat-themed cupcakes and lemonade in the Activity Shed and a bat chat with Gerri Griswold and her bat AmBATsador, Betty, a Big Brown Bat in the A. B. Ceder Room. Then, as darkness sets in, we’ll count our bat colony as it emerges from the Green Barn! 7:00 p.m. FREE but you MUST pre-register by calling 860-567-0857 or by registering online at

The Science of Scent with Erin Josefson

Learn why odor is so important in the animal kingdom, including humans, and how odor moves. We will look at several animals including bears, sharks, kiwis, snakes, and wolves. “Search and Rescue” K-9 Lucy will provide a demonstration of our furry best friends’ incredible abilities in the art of detection. 2:00 p.m., A. B. Ceder Room, WHITE MEMORIAL HAS A LEASHED DOG POLICY THROUGHOUT THE PROPERTY.  “SEARCH AND RESCUE” K-9 LUCY HAS SPECIAL PERMISSION TO WORK OFF LEAD FOR THIS PRESENTATION.
