Nature’s Nursery Series  
4:00-5:00pm  
Join us on the first Thursday of each month from September – December for an engaging program designed just for your young nature lovers. Every session will include a story, an encounter with a live animal, and an activity or craft. Some of our activities might be outside, so dress for the weather and wear good walking shoes. Parents/Caregivers, we ask that you stay for the duration of the program. Meet in the A.B. Ceder Room. 4-5pm. Advanced registration is required. To register, please call 860-567-0857 or visit whitememorialcc.org. Space is limited. Please inquire about financial aid as needed. Members: $9/child per session or $30/whole series, Non-Members: $13/child per session or $50/whole series

Twilight Hike and Stories by the  Campfire with Colleen Harrak

Join us for an evening of fun as we celebrate fall! First, Environmental Educator Colleen Harrak will lead you on a twilight hike through the woods. Then, we’ll gather around a campfire to eat S’mores and tell spooky stories. Dress for the weather and wear good hiking shoes. Suggested for ages 8 and older. Meet in the A.B. Ceder Room. 5-7pm. Dark of Winter Yoga with Judith Ehrman-Shapiro

This class will run for 17 weeks, from the change of the clock in November to the change of the clock in March, specifically November 9 to March 20. The class will meet on Wednesdays from 4:30-5:30. This class will meet on Zoom, but there are a few spaces in the studio for in-person students who are vaccinated (please contact me directly if interested). There is no previous yoga experience required. The purpose of the class is self-care during the winter season; increasing self-awareness, emotional balance, physical strength, flexibility, and muscular endurance. The class will integrate mindfulness, breath technique, yoga postures, kinesthetic awareness, and alignment in an hour of relaxing, quiet, guided movement.

The cost will be $10 per class. Money can be exchanged on Venmo, Square, Cash, or Check. Please contact Judith to make these arrangements. Each class attended donates $1 to White Memorial Conservation Center!! After you Contact Judith, the link for the class will be provided.

Her private practice, the Evolving Center, is in Winsted. She is a proud member of White Memorial Conservation Center, where she has been sharing her love of yoga for over 6 years!

Museum Children Free Week

Kids, have you ever wanted to identify the animals around you, even down to their exact species? This program will do that and more, as you become citizen scientists! You’ll go out “in the field,” identify wildlife, record your observations, and submit them to real-world scientific projects, such as E-Bird and I-Naturalist. Education Director Carrie Szwed will be your teacher and lead your team of young naturalists. Parents are welcome to stay and participate in data collection, but it is not required. Meet in the A.B. Babies in Backpacks with Kelly Orr

Children ages 6 months through 2 years can explore the great outdoors with us on the third Thursday of every month from September – December. This is a place for caretakers to learn about being outside in all safe weather with babies and toddlers, to try out different hiking carriers, swap suggestions on gear, and help encourage each other to be outside more! The very flexible schedule will typically be a half hour of walking and a half hour of outdoor sensory exploration. Having fun is our only expectation! Bring any milk, snacks, and supplies you will need, but we won’t go too far from your car. Dress for the weather! We will go out in snow, rain, and sun, as long as it is safe! Caretakers must stay for the duration of the program. Meet in the Pollinator Garden. 10-11am. Advanced registration required. Star Party

This astronomy program is organized by members of the Litchfield Hills Amateur Astronomy Club and the Mattatuck Astronomical Society. Weather permitting; there will be star gazing after the program. 7:00 P.M., A.B. Ceder Room. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. You are invited to bring your own telescope or binoculars. FREE… Donations will be accepted to help defray the Conservation Center’s programming expenses

Crack O’ Dawn Owl Prowl with Fran Zygmont

You can do it! Venture out into the crisp autumn morning in search of our native owls with expert Fran Zygmont. We’ll be in search of Barred Owls, Screech Owls, Saw-Whet Owls, and Great Horned Owls. Dress for the weather! A briefing on what you can expect to see or hear will precede the prowl. Coffee and comestibles will be served beforehand to keep you awake. Optional breakfast at Patty’s apres program. 4:30 A.M., Meet at the A. B. Totally Turtles with Colleen Harrak

Walking the Cranberry Pond Trail with Gerri Griswold

Welcome to our 13th annual edition of this popular walk!
