September Newsletter from the Yarmouth Town Libraries

From the Director
Summer seems to have sped by again. Perhaps that is why many of us think that September is one of the best months to be on the Cape (I like them all, thank you). We had a crazy busy past few weeks, with lots of activities and many happy library visitors. There is a sense of joy when you meet new people who love the library and all it offers a community. The sight of delighted children discovering new books and activities warms the heart. Let us ease into the fall and treasure our summer experiences and memories. Maybe life will quiet down a little bit.

Library Director

When America entered World War II in 1941, it faced an enemy that had banned and burned over 100 million books and caused fearful citizens to hide or destroy many more. Outraged librarians launched a campaign to send free books to American troops and gathered 20 million hardcover donations. In 1943, the War Department and the publishing industry stepped in with an extraordinary program: 120 million small, lightweight paperbacks, for troops to carry in their pockets and their rucksacks, changing the face of American literature and publishing in the process.

Copies of this book are available at both libraries. You can also listen to the audiobook or read the ebook on Overdrive/Libby or the Hoopla app. Please email [email protected] or call the library at 508-760-4820 to register to receive a Zoom link or with any questions.

If you need Zoom help, please call 508-760-4820 to set up a troubleshooting session or if you need any other assistance.
