4Paws2Freedom has partnered with RRUFF's Healing Heroes Program, and provides Service Dog Training to Firefighters, Parmedics, Police Officers, Veterans, Victims of Crime.

How our program works:  We offer 8-week classes in which we teach you how to train your own dog for service work.  There are no more than six human-dog teams in each class.  There is homework for you and your dog thought the week.

Every dog is evaluated for service aptitude prior to acceptance into the program. some dogs are clearly more suited for PTSD work than others.  In particular, American, German and Durch Shepherds, while excellent in some roles, are to protective of their owner to be accepted in our program, nor are dogs demonstrating any aggressive behavior.  We work with breeders and rescue organizations to help find good candidate.

Service dogs can help in many ways.  They can be trained to provide a buffer zone between their human and others, recognize repetitive motions, alert to the approach of someone behind, guide their human to a safe place, turn on lights in a dark room and interrupt nightmares, and many other important tasks.

We are able to offer scholarships to veterans, victims of crime, retired police officers, paramedics and firefighters who would benefit from a service dog; thanks to generous donations from the public, other organizations and businesses.
