Adult Learning Center Of Long Beach

500 Center Street
516-897-2206

The Long Beach Adult Learning Center is a place where adults can work on improving their basic reading, writing and mathematics skills or learn to speak English. In existence since 1967, it is part of the Long Beach Public Schools district. The ALC's mission is to empower learners through education to reach their greatest potential as learners, parents, consumers and citizens.

The ALC receives Employment Preparation Education (EPE) funds from the New York State Education Department (NYSED). Additional funding is received through a Job Opportunity and Basic Skills (JOBS) contract with the Nassau County Department of Social Services and the Education for Gainful Employment (EDGE) Program. The ALC works with VESID (Vocational Education Services for Individuals with Disabilities), the One Stop Center, The Department of Social Services, and with individuals referred by various state and local agencies.

The ALC has long been recognized as an agency that effectively addresses the educational and employment needs of adults from the neediest, most disadvantaged segments of the population to the community as a whole. Continuing Education courses are offered during the evenings and advanced registration is required. Adult Literacy courses are offered days and evenings, and individuals can enroll at any time.
