American Cancer Society Relay for Life/Chelsea

The Relay for Life of Western Washtenaw County/Chelsea is just one of 4400 Relays around the world.  Relay for Life is the American Cancer Society's signature fundraising event annually.  It is a fun-filled overnight event designed to celebrate survivorship, remember those lost to cancer and raise funds for research and programs offered by the American Cancer Society. During the event, teams of people gather at schools, fairgrounds or parks to take turns walking or running laps in a Relay type format. Each team tries to have at least one team member on the track at all times. There are activities going on at all times including live and silent auctions, childrens’ games, live entertainment, as well as demonstrations put on by local organizations and the entire event is open to the public. The Luminaria ceremony, which normally takes place at nightfall on the first day of the event, is an integral part of the entire program and is well attended by survivors, their caregivers and their family and friends from across the area. Again, we invite the public to attend any and all programs that are planned during the 24 hour period.
