The Mid-Rio Grande Chapter began serving Albuquerque and surrounding communities in 1916. In 2005, the chapter's service area has increased with the merger of the Tierra del Sol Chapter. Our combined service area now covers twenty counties in central, northern, and eastern New Mexico - Bernalillo, Catron, Colfax, Curry, De Baca, Guadalupe, Harding, Los Alamos, Mora, Quay, Rio Arriba, Roosevelt, San Miguel, Sandoval, Santa Fe, Socorro, Taos, Torrance, Union, Valencia, - a geographic area of 83,000 square miles , with a population of 1,109,888 . The chapter maintains three Service Centers - Valencia Service Center in Belen, Zia Service Center in Clovis, and Tierra del Sol Service Center in Santa Fe. The chapter's main headquarters is in Albuquerque.

The Chapter's trained volunteer Disaster Action Teams respond to emergencies 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

The Mid-Rio Grande Chapter assists from 150-200 families impacted by disaster each year.

Residence fires account for the majority of disasters in the greater New Mexico area, but the chapter also responds to hazardous materials spills, floods, severe windstorms, SWAT incidents, hailstorms, wild land fires, snowbound stranded motorists, and search and rescue operations.
