About Us

Bell Elementary School, which is located at 15 Golden Street, Kirkwood, NY, houses approximately 300 students in grades kindergarten through 5th grade. Students are welcomed into a learning environment that is focused on helping children succeed with both their academic and social interactions. Our school atmosphere is enhanced through a strong relationship with both our parents and community resources.

Students at Bell School have a “Can Do Noble Knight” attitude. We can achieve success in our schoolwork, in our relationships with others, and in our outreach to our school community through the Ten Virtues: Respect, Responsibility, Gratitude, Compassion, Integrity, Friendship, Self-Control, Positive Attitude, Perseverance, Citizenship. Our Noble Knight awards will be given out quarterly at our awards assemblies.

Our school fosters a strong program of instruction, which is augmented through the resources of caring and resourceful classroom teachers, special area teachers for art, music and physical education. Academic Intervention Services (AIS) teachers for reading and math provide additional instruction to students. A Computer Lab teacher assistant, two academic tutors, and a number of teaching assistants and teachers aides complete a dedicated faculty working together to assure all our Noble Knights experience a successful superior education here at Bell School. In addition, our school guidance counselor, school nurse, principal, and all support personnel are focused on helping our students succeed as well.

Special activities of the school include; a very active Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO), Building Leadership Team (BLT), Knight’s Court, Student Council, Frito-Lay Reading Pals, a strong Volunteer Program, and Bell Publishing Company. In addition, several community activities such as our Spaghetti Dinner in the fall and our Ice Cream Social in the spring, the Science Fair, monthly Family Library Nights Out, and Poetry Recitation Nights are opportunities for you to be involved. Bell School is pleased to invite community residents into our school to share in our activities.

Bell School’s faculty is dedicated to using research proven strategies for helping all students meet the rigorous demands of the New York Standards of Learning. Our curriculum is closely aligned to New York State Standards in the areas of ELA, Math, Social Studies and Science. We will also be piloting new curriculum in Art, Music and Physical Education. In addition, we will be participating in frequent assessment of the core subjects to monitor student progress and modify instruction to insure that “no child is left behind” at Floyd L. Bell Elementary School.
