About Us :

The Big Bay de Noc School is a consolidated Class D, rural K-12 one-building school district. Currently our student population is approximately 270 students with an average class size of 20 students. Our school sits along the shores of Lake Michigan on the eastern edge of Delta County in the beautiful Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

The Big Bay de Noc School is a central hub for the surrounding communities. The people in these communities take great pride in their school and give meaning to the phrase a "community owned" school. In 1997 the surrounding townships passed a 10 year Sinking Fund Millage. The purpose of such a millage is to secure funding for building improvements without incurring long term debt and using general fund monies needed for school operation. Since the inception of this millage, the entire school facility has received everything from small scale remodeling projects such as new lockers, tile flooring, windows, and ceiling tiles, to the large scale projects like our new state of the art science labs, a total refurbishment of the entire elementary wing and construction of a bus garage. The recent elementary remodel included complete newly outfitted classrooms, restrooms and new desks giving us the largest elementary classrooms in the county and surrounding area. In 2008 the community resoundingly renewed this Sinking Fund Millage for another 10 years. The support of this community has secured the future of Big Bay de Noc School's needed improvements and maintenance to the facility into the next decade.
