In 1787 Daniel Montgomery opened a general store and trading post near the river on the corner of Mill and East Market Streets. He became a merchant for a large area. It was in his honor that Danville was named. General William Montgomery built the stone residence on the corner of Mill and Bloom Streets in 1792. It is now occupied by the Montour County Historical Society.
