About Bridges :

Bridges is an alternative public school that serves at risk students in Carteret County, North Carolina. The majority of our students are middle schoolers and ninth graders, but in emergency situations some modifications can be made to serve other age groups.

Bridges provides a safe, orderly, caring, and inviting learning environment for its students. We have high levels of expectations for our students and staff. We provide flexible and individualized instructional delivery in classrooms with low student/teacher ratios. The Bridges experience is intended to be a fairly long-term one. In most cases, the child needs services for an entire school year. This is because, to effect change in ‘at risk’ children, it is necessary to establish a sense of community and family at their school.

Through a comprehensive school counseling program and character education program,Bridges Alternative School attempts to provide effective interventions designed to assist our students in returning to the regular education setting. We have a school wide plan for student conduct and for student interactions with others. All school procedures and policies are fair and equitable. We have an “open door” policy and we welcome parents and school employees who wish to visit our program.

Bridges is NOT designed to be a punishment for a student’s prior mistakes.
