Broody Hen Farm CSA

Every year we will try a new approach to growing or expand into a new area of foods. 2010 will offer Jerusalem artichokes and fresh horseradish in the method that we grew our white and sweet potatoes. Everything on the farm are available for the CSA. Throughout the season, in addition to the vegetables, we will also have a dozen eggs a week and two chickens and a turkey at the end of the season. Berries will be given to whomever would like to experiment with them. Herbs will go to everyone unless you ask to be exempt. A weekly newsletter will be available online along with a web site. At the end of the season we will all gather for the yearly honey harvest and bar-b-que.

In 2011, we will expand the CSA with a community outreach for seniors. Five 150.00 shares will be available for anyone over 70 yr old. This will be a single share (enough for one person) to make sure that our senior community has access to fresh foods too. After we get our seniors together, we will expand it to adopt a senior for those of you that would like to help the older generation of the community.

Here at Broody Hen, we believe in farming the way it was meant to be. We use sustainable methods in all aspect of the farm.. No chemicals, outside of vaccinations for the pets, are used on our farm. Nature is perfect just the way she is and we farm in cooperation with her different moods. Water and soil conservation are practiced using compost, heavy mulches, natural insect control and rain water collection. Every year, I take on a new experiment in growing. In 2010, both Jeruselum artichokes and fresh horseradish will be tried for the first time. The chickens here are on the endangered breed watch. We have Jersey Giants and Brahmas that give us jumbo eggs, Buff Orphingtons and Golden Wyandottes: not to mention the new arrivals Coocoo Morans which lay chocolate brown eggs.
