About Us:

Caroline Wenzel is a k-6 neighborhood school and has been a part of the Pocket community for the past 36 years. Caroline Wenzel has high academic standards. Parents, students, staff and members of our community are all working together to continue Wenzel’s Tradition of Excellence.

Class size is 20:1 in Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grades. In addition to the regular K-6 classrooms, Wenzel has two special day classes for communicatively disabled students. Caroline Wenzel has a very strong music/arts program for 1st-6th grade students with opportunities for intermediate students to participate in regular Choir as well as Honor Choir.

Also intermediate students have the opportunity to participate in Show Choir; a dance group that performs during many of our assemblies. There is a 4thR program available for before and after school child care on our campus.

Several classes participate in “Very Special Arts,” which is a cooperative program involving scholars from the University of California at Davis. Our dynamic PTA helps to supports many important programs here at Caroline Wenzel.

We have an innovative P.E./Computer program which all 1-6 grade students partake in. There are computers in all classrooms as well as a computer lab with Internet access.

We have an active student council. As part of our school-wide incentive program, we have a school store where students can spend coupons earned for good behavior and academic achievement.

We also have regular Character Ed. and academic-achievement awards assemblies. We have a breakfast as well as a lunch program available for all students.

Spring Fling, Jog-a-thon, Fitness meet, Play day, multi-culture dinner, Running club, and RIF (free books), are an example of some of the special activities throughout the year.

We have a well-stocked library that is made available to all students for recreational reading as well as research projects. Caroline Wenzel has been fortunate to have Healthy Start on board. They provide interns to work with the students and their families.

Healthy Start also supports our Peer Mediator program for conflict management. Our resource program gives extra academic assistance to our students. It is coordinated by a special- qualified teacher, and school psychologist.

We also have a Literacy Center that is staffed with well trained aides and a teacher. They tutor students in reading, math, and language as well as run our homework club. Renovation has included updated heating and air systems as well as new buildings and grounds. The main building has had some interior makeovers and rewiring to bring us up to date and more efficient.
